Lawton Park Community Garden
Lawton Park Community Garden is located on Lawton Street close to the
intersection of Thorndike, Abbortsford and Hamilton streets. The property
is part of the Brookline Division of Parks and Open Space.
The pollinator garden is planted along the outside fence of the community
garden. The members of the community garden started planting pollinator
plants in 2021. Each year they add more plants.
The first plants were echinacea started from seed and planted along the
back fence. Other plants were purchased and now you will find anise
hyssop, ironweed, brown eyed Susan, bee balm, bluestar, Goldenrod, New
England aster, Culver’s root, penstemon, jewelweed, native sunflower and
Joe Pye weed. In 2024 the town gave us milkweed (butterfly weed), more
rudbeckia and sweet goldenrod.
The plantings are maintained by the members of the community garden
and some community volunteers.
