Emerson Garden

This pollinator garden was planted by many neighbors who live nearby Emerson Garden on June 9, 2026.

A small Emerson Garden park Friends group re-formed to discuss ideas for how we could improve the park and add to its vibrancy since it is very much a community center in our neighborhood.

Because of there has been a lot of neighborhood interest in native plants and pollinator habitat, the friends group met with several friends in the Brookline Pollinator Pathway and then talked with the Town's Department of Public Works about a pollinator garden. After that, we applied for a grant to pay for the garden from the Brookline GreenSpace Alliance, which supports park friends groups in improving their parks.

The friends group is very grateful to the Brookline GreenSpace Alliance for awarding us the grant that funded our new pollinator garden and to the Town of Brookline for developing a plan for the garden and supporting our group in arranging the planting and setting up the watering of the garden.

Here is the native plant list for this pollinator habitat garden.

& here is the garden design plan, which was developed by one of our Town's amazing landscape architects and follows the shapes of the shade from the trees nearby.

The garden plan sites the garden behind a bench, in an area away from the playground and field, which both get a lot of active use, and also in an area where we hope the deep roots of the plants will over time reduce flooding along the sidewalk as they will absorb more water than the shallower roots of the turf grass.
